Why we exist
Everybody’s got a guy.
It’s the most useful sentence in New York, and it never comes from a search engine. GottaGuy is the friend who always knows someone — the plumber who picks up, the mover who doesn’t flake — turned into a list you can actually open.
The best ones don’t even have a website. They don’t advertise and they don’t chase leads — they’re booked on word of mouth, a phone number passed quietly between neighbors. We just got the neighborhood to write those numbers down.

The list is only as good as the people on it.
Referrals beat algorithms
The best guy you ever hired came from a friend, not a ranking — and the good ones are too busy to advertise anyway. We’re building on that instinct, not replacing it with a search box.
Members are the customer
Pros never pay us — not for placement, not for a badge. So the list answers to the people hiring, not to the people being hired.
Talent doesn’t always have a logo
The best guy might be a licensed shop — or one person who moonlights and is quietly the best on the block. We don’t want every plumber in New York, just the ones a neighbor would vouch for.
Read the person, not the stars
Most reviews are five lazy stars or one furious rant — neither tells you much. We show whether a neighbor would hire them again, what they’re like to work with, and who to steer clear of.

GottaGuy is in invite-only alpha — the five boroughs, one cohort at a time. The list is small right now, and getting better every week as members add the guys they’d stake their name on.
How we keep the lights on without ads is its own story — members fund the list by contributing or paying a small fee, and pros never pay a cent. The whole model is on the pricing page.
